Chemotherapy drugs cause side effects because they attack cells dividing quickly, without distinguishing between cancer cells and healthy cells which also divide rapidly (hair cells, blood cells, and cells in the mouth and intestines). This can lead to side effects. These side effects are usually temporary, because healthy cells can repair themselves or be replaced.
