The innovative award-winning BREATH Psychosocial Support Program promotes a holistic approach to lung cancer by offering free psychosocial support to patients and caregivers nationwide. The webinar aims to highlight the necessity of psychological and social support throughout the course of the disease.
A lung cancer diagnosis triggers intense psychological and emotional stress for both patients and caregivers. Addressing the psychological impact of the disease, including anxiety, depression and fear, is critical to better quality of life and treatment effectiveness.
Following topics will be covered :
- Presentation of results of the BREATH Psychosocial Support Program over 2 years of operation and service.
- The necessity of psychological support for patients experiencing lung cancer, their caregivers and families throughout the disease. Personal stories of participants will reveal everyday challenges as well as possible supporting strategies and services . Emphasis will be placed on grief counseling for adults and children.
- Social support and creative activities for patients and caregivers, introducing critical issues of social inclusion, aiming to improve daily life and well-being.
The webinar will conclude with the presentation of the book “Breath of Life” authored by Christos Apostolakos, a stage IV lung cancer patient. Profits of the book support the BREATH Psychosocial Support Program.
The event will be coordinated by journalist Ms Natassa Spagadorou.
The event is under the auspices of the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology (HeSMO), the Hellenic Cancer Federation (ELLOK), the Hellenic Nurses’ Association and the Hellenic Psychological Society (HPS).
