By Julia,
My story began in July 2019, when a CT scan revealed a malignancy in my left lug, leaving me in shock and disbelief. I couldn’t imagine how I would tell my husband and children. This was the start of numerous tests and the search for a thoracic surgeon. In September 2019, I underwent surgery to remove part of my left lung, followed by chemotherapy and routine check-ups. Everything seemed fine until the end of 2021, when a PET scan revealed nodules growing in my right lung. After more tests and consultations with my surgeon, I had another surgery in March 2022, followed by radiation.
Then, in June 2022, my son was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His diagnosis devastated me, but I found the strength to set aside my own struggles, apart from the necessary tests, and stand by him for the year he fought the illness. When he passed, my world turned dark, and I lost all motivation. However, I eventually found the strength to carry on. I resumed my treatments, started chemotherapy again, and with the ongoing support of my family and my psychotherapist through FairLife’s BREATH program, I am doing better and keep on fighting. I am so grateful!
