FairLife Lung Cancer Care announces the implementation of an innovative educational program for nurses, aiming to improve the quality of care for patients with lung cancer in Greece. The program, which is implemented in collaboration and with the scientific support of the Nursing Oncology Department of the National Nurses Association of Greece, offers participants new knowledge and skills that will help them in their daily clinical practice and in their professional development.
Nurses caring for oncology patients with lung cancer in Greece face significant challenges, the most important of which is the lack of specialized training. In Greece, there is the Oncology specialty (officially institutionalized) but there is no specialization for lung cancer. Alongside the lack of specialization, there is also professional burnout due to emotional stress and excessive workload in hospitals. In addition, psychological challenges and minimal opportunities to exchange experiences and knowledge with colleagues and specialists negatively affect both the quality of care they provide and their professional and mental well-being.
The new Nurses Training Program launched by FairLife L.C.C. aims to address the above challenges with significant benefits for the nurses who will attend the training, like:
- Skills Enhancement: acquiring practical knowledge to improve the care of patients with lung cancer
- Career upgrade: new professional skills by obtaining certification from the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS)
- Expanding their professional network through contact and collaboration with colleagues and industry experts
The program includes two training cycles:
- 1st Educational Cycle: 4 online meetings (6 hours/meeting) with emphasis on symptomatology, diagnosis, risk factors and management of the disease.
- 2nd Educational Cycle: 2 online meetings (6 hours/meeting) focusing on counseling education and personal mental empowerment of nurses.
The lung cancer education program includes a comprehensive approach to care, focusing on both knowledge and psychosocial support. As part of the program, an educational webinar will be organized that will cover issues of diagnosis, disease management and mental health of patients. At the same time, nurses will have access to a specially designed digital page with useful information for the management of patients with lung cancer, as well as digital guides (digital booklets) with updated educational material, which will be available for free through the program’s website.
The program will conclude with online exams. Upon completion of the exams, nurses will receive certification from the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS) and International Continuing Nursing Education Units (ICNECs) by the Greek National Nursing Association credit committee, according to ICN criteria.
The President of FairLife L.C.C., Korina Pateli Bell, stated: “Improving the care of lung cancer patients is our commitment! Nurses are on the front lines and with the new educational program we are supporting them in practice, providing knowledge and skills that make a difference. We wholeheartedly thank all our partners and supporters who contribute to this initiative!”
The new Nurses’ Educational Program is under the auspices of: European Oncology Nursing Society (E.ON.S.), Society of Oncologists of Greece (S.O.P.E.), Hellenic Pulmonary Society (S.P.E.), Hellenic Society of Radiation Oncology (H.E.A.O.), Hellenic Society of Pathological Anatomical (H.E.P.A.).
