“Don’t be Afraid and don’t be Late
Prevention Beats Cancer”
FairLife – Lung Cancer Care supports the activities of the Cancer Information & Awareness Week, in Patras.
The interactive discussion “Don’t be Afraid and don’t be Late – Prevention Beats Cancer”, held on Saturday, September 11th in the atrium of the “Polyhedron” bookstore has been the starting point for the Cancer Information & Awareness Week, in Patras. The event, attended by many people beyond the local community, provided useful information about the importance of cancer prevention, especially in the midst of a pandemic.
The event was headed by the Director of Pathological Oncology and Head of the Oncology Department of St. Andreas General Hospital of Patras, Mrs. Athina Christopoulou and coordinated by the Professor of Surgical Oncology and President of the Hellenic Open University, Mr. Odysseas Zoras and the SKAI journalist, Mrs. Elena Papadimitriou. The keynote speaker, Surgeon Oncologist Dr. Ioannis Spiliotis, referred to the lack of primary cancer prevention as well as to unknown risk factors for various cancers, stressing the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Prominent politicians and scientists highlighted the significance of public awareness, discussed the human side of cancer and concluded on an optimistic note for the future.
Dedicated members of greek voluntary associations for cancer prevention offered their valuable opinion, focusing on early detection and also bringing attention to their main support needs. President of FairLife Lung Cancer Care, Mrs. Korina Pateli shared her personal experience about her late husband’s battle against cancer.
In the course of the Cancer Information & Awareness Week, illuminated awareness messages about cancer prevention will be displayed on Sunday, September 12th, on the building of St. Andreas General Hospital at 20:00.
