I would like to share with you our family experience of dealing with lung cancer. Two years ago, my 62 year-old mother, a smoker for over 25 years, had to undergo a serious surgery.
Let’s take it from the top.
My mother is a vigorous and cheerful person, full of energy but often stubborn. Every time we laughed out loud, her laugh ended up in a coughing fit. She coughed a lot and felt that her cough was due to smoking. Fortunately, both for her and for us, she never neglected her medical check-ups. Thus, on a regular check-up, a chest X-ray showed a shadow on the lung. Over the next few days, I could see the fear in her eyes. She was worried.
I was afraid and worried, as well, but pretended to be calm. I remember the feeling of losing control. Ignorance about the future starts causing anxiety and tension. Negative thoughts invade your mind. Medical examinations become a daily routine and a source of stress.
Doctors recommended surgery as soon as possible, so it was performed a few days before Christmas.
My mother was lucky.
Two years have gone by and she continues to live her life. She no longer smokes, she enjoys her family and regularly checks her health.
If the X-ray had not been performed, things might have turned out differently.
