Chemotherapy is a treatment option for lung cancer at all stages, but it’s not the only one. It’s often used alongside other treatments and can be given in different ways:
- Adjuvant chemotherapy: After surgery or radiation therapy, it is used to destroy any cancer cells left behind.
- Neoadjuvant chemotherapy: Given before surgery to shrink the cancer and make it easier to remove, and also to destroy not detectable cancer cells.
- Concurrent chemotherapy: Given alongside radiation therapy, either as the only treatment or before planned surgery in the neoadjuvant setting.
