« 14 minutes FairLife»: Fairlife’s new anti-smoking campaign by young people »

FairLife teams up with a group of teen volunteers in a range of anti-smoking activities for young people by young people!

FairLife Lung Cancer Care, the first non-profit organization in Greece exclusively dedicated to lung cancer, actively supports prevention, lung health awareness and an overall healthy life. Fairlife addresses teenagers and young people, who in turn convey the message about smoking health risks to their peers.

In this context, we proudly present the video “14 minutes of FairLife – for young people by young people”, the first of a series of anti-smoking actions, organized by FairLife in collaboration with teen volunteers. Youth ambassadors advocate for a tobacco-free world in schools and youth centres.

Orestis Fotis Mikelakis, the 10th grader and youngest Ambassador of FairLife, asked his peers to openly speak about smoking and deliver the message that each cigarette reduces our life by 14 minutes and that we  definitely can make better use of our time. The video, created by a group of 11 students from 9 different schools, is a call to young people by young people to get together, take action, and lead their way to the first tobacco-free generation.

About contacting FairLife, Orestis states: “My first encounter with FairLife L.C.C. has been through an interview of its founder, Korina Pateli Bell, conducted by the well-known journalist and columnist Rea Vitali. It was not just the moving personal story or the purpose of raising awareness about lung cancer that prompted me to volunteer. Above all, it was her admirable attitude towards life that I appreciate, and that I believe we should all strive for. For turning problem into solution, pain into strength, loss into hope, every end into a new beginning.

In the short time I volunteered for raising youth awareness about the consequences of smoking and vaping, I learned a lot and worked with people my age, to implement a youth anti-smoking campaign.

We too can save lives through FairLife L.C.C. Because we can all do so much, together even more. “Knowledge, prevention and early diagnosis are the best medicine to treat lung cancer.”

Korina Pateli Bell, president of FairLife LCC, added: “In Greece, 1/5 of all deaths (more than 20,000 per year), are related to active and passive smoking. The video “14 minutes FairLife” – created by Orestis, a 10th grade student of the Psychico College and youngest Ambassador of FairLife – is an inspiration to us all and a confirmation that the new generation claims a healthy and smoke-free future. We join the effort of Orestis and the children and we truly appreciate their support of Fairlife’s goals, because “Life should take your breath away and not lung cancer!”
