Melina Bell is a postgraduate researcher in Functional Genetics and Development at the University of Edinburgh, working in Dr. Megan G. Davey’s lab at the world-renowned Roslin Institute. Her research focuses on the morphogenesis of the interosseous membrane in chick embryos and its disruption in cases of radial dysplasia.
She holds a First Class Honours BSc in Biomedical Science from King’s College London, where she ranked among the top 1–2% of her cohort and was shortlisted for the Biomedical Final Year Prize. During her studies, she developed a passion for anatomy and developmental biology, completing over 200 hours of cadaveric dissection, tutoring fellow students, and conducting research on cardiac development in Dr. Joaquim Vieira’s lab.
Before university, Melina completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) at Geitonas School in Athens, Greece, achieving a score of 43/45, and receiving the Award of Excellence for 2 consecutive years.
Beyond academia, Melina is a founding member of FairLife Lung Cancer Care, a non-profit organization established in memory of her late father, Simon Bell, to support patients and promote lung cancer awareness and prevention.
